Time will only tell how the InfoSci major reputation holds up, but I believe that many currently in the major enjoy the benefits and are satisfied with the InfoSci major. Those I've talked to generally report being happier, more time to relax/sleep/enjoy college life, and enjoy the same job benefits of CompSci through internships from companies eager to invest in a lite version of CS. I also still managed to get a great internship last Summer that is transitioning into a full time position after I graduate so it's all working out. Overall I enjoy it and definitely recommend it to people who want to stay in the general CompSci subject material but not deal with the CompSci work load. For example last semester I took a User Centered Design course and this semester I'm taking a Data Visualization course, and both are pretty cool and not something you'd get in CompSci.
